Strike from above with the Legiones Astartes MkIV Assault Squad, a unit of 10 jump-pack-equipped Space Marine Legionaries created for Warhammer: The Horus Heresy. Clad in Mark IV 'Maximus' armour and armed for brutal close combat, these warriors can represent either Loyalist defenders of the Imperium or Traitor Legions fighting beneath the banner of Horus.

Product description
Assault Squads are rapid attack formations trained to cross the battlefield at exceptional speed. Their jump packs allow them to bypass defensive positions, leap over difficult terrain and descend directly upon vulnerable enemy formations.

This multipart plastic kit builds 10 Space Marine Assault Legionaries wearing Mark IV 'Maximus' power armour. Each warrior is equipped with a jump pack and can be assembled with a chainsword and bolt pistol, creating a force designed for aggressive advances and savage close-quarter engagements.

The entire squad can alternatively be represented as Veteran Assault Legionaries armed with power lances. Sergeant weapon options, interchangeable heads, alternative shoulder pads and additional equipment provide extensive opportunities to personalise the unit.

Jump-pack equipped shock troops
The streamlined jump packs give the unit a distinctive airborne appearance and separate the Assault Legionaries from conventional Tactical Squads. Their dynamic poses capture warriors landing among the enemy, launching towards a new target or preparing to strike with chainswords and pistols.

Each miniature is designed to communicate speed despite the weight of its power armour. Extended weapons, raised legs and carefully balanced poses create the impression of a squad moving rapidly through the chaos of an Age of Darkness battlefield.

The models are well suited to an aggressive assault force, a mobile reinforcement unit or a Legion army built around fast-moving infantry. They can also form the basis of a narrative force representing veteran warriors selected for the most dangerous attacks.

Mark IV 'Maximus' armour
Mark IV 'Maximus' armour was developed during the final years of the Great Crusade as one of the most advanced forms of power armour available to the Legiones Astartes.

Its comparatively lightweight construction offers a balance between protection and mobility, making it particularly suitable for warriors expected to fight while using jump packs. Redesigned helmets, reinforced armour plates and protected external cabling give the MkIV pattern its distinctive appearance.

The armour became highly prized among the Space Marine Legions, but the rebellion of Horus and the collapse of Imperial supply lines prevented its universal adoption. Some Legions entered the civil war with extensive stocks of MkIV plate, while others reserved it for veteran formations and favoured assault units.

Assault Legionary equipment
The standard models can be assembled with chainswords and bolt pistols, creating the classic equipment combination of a Legion Assault Squad.

The chainswords feature aggressive toothed blades designed for close combat, while the pistols allow the Legionaries to fire as they close upon their target. Grenades, pouches and additional accessories can be distributed across the squad to create individual warriors with their own equipment and campaign history.

The kit includes 10 helmeted heads and two bare heads. You can create a fully helmeted squad or use the uncovered heads to distinguish the Sergeant and another veteran warrior.

Eighteen shoulder pads are included, providing additional visual variety across the 10 miniatures. The components are interchangeable, but they use the same models and mounting positions, so not every option can be assembled simultaneously.

Veteran Assault Squad with power lances
The kit contains 10 power lance upgrades, allowing the full unit to be assembled as a Veteran Assault Squad.

The long hafts and energised blades give the models an imposing silhouette suited to warriors who use the momentum of their jump packs to drive directly into enemy formations. The power lances also provide a visually distinctive alternative to the chainswords carried by standard Assault Legionaries.

These are alternative construction options. A single model cannot be assembled with both its standard chainsword and power lance in the same hand configuration, so the preferred unit type should be planned before applying glue.

A complete squad can be built as standard Assault Legionaries, Veteran Assault Legionaries with power lances or a customised combination intended for display and narrative modelling. Equipment permitted in current games should be checked against the relevant army book and official updates.

Legion Sergeant options
Dedicated components allow one model to be distinguished as the squad Sergeant.

The Sergeant can be assembled with two power fists, two power claws or a combination of one power fist or power claw and a bolt pistol. These alternatives create several dramatically different command poses.

Paired power fists give the Sergeant the appearance of a heavily armed linebreaker prepared to crush armour at close range. Power claws create a more predatory silhouette, while the pistol combination retains the visual connection to the equipment carried by the rest of the squad.

The Sergeant options share the same body and arm mounting points. Only one configuration can be built from the included Sergeant components.

Suitable for every Space Marine Legion
The miniatures have no sculpted Legion-specific symbols. This makes the squad suitable for any of the Legiones Astartes that fought during the Horus Heresy.

You can paint the models as loyal warriors defending the Emperor, Traitor Legionaries following the Warmaster or a force whose loyalties remain divided during the opening stages of the civil war.

The neutral armour details also make the kit suitable for Legion-specific upgrade heads, shoulder pads and other compatible modelling components sold separately.

Legiones Astartes transfer sheet
The included Infantry Transfer Sheet contains 618 waterslide transfers for decorating the miniatures.

The sheet includes Legion icons, honour markings and numbers for the Sons of Horus, Iron Warriors, Salamanders and Imperial Fists. These markings allow you to give the squad a clear battlefield identity without covering the detailed MkIV armour with sculpted faction symbols.

Transfers can be applied to shoulder pads, knee plates, armour panels and other suitable surfaces. Smaller numbers and honour markings can also be used to distinguish the Sergeant, veteran warriors or individual members of the squad.

The included transfer designs do not limit the models to those four Legions. The miniatures can be painted for any Legiones Astartes force, with additional Legion-specific transfers and upgrades available separately.

Painting and modelling opportunities
The smooth armour panels of Mark IV power armour provide excellent surfaces for clean Legion colours, weathering, transfers and campaign markings.

Loyalist collectors can create disciplined Imperial Fists, battle-scarred Salamanders or warriors from another Legion that remained true to the Emperor. Traitor forces can represent the dark sea-green of the Sons of Horus, the industrial metal of the Iron Warriors or the colours of any other Legion that joined the rebellion.

Jump packs, weapon casings, armoured cabling and power lance components introduce additional mechanical details. These areas can be painted with dark metallics, heat staining, energy effects and signs of battlefield wear.

The 15 optional accessories allow equipment to be distributed differently across the squad. Grenades, pouches and additional wargear help each Legionary appear as an individual veteran while preserving a unified unit identity.

The 32mm round bases provide room for ruined fortifications, burning cities, industrial decks, alien landscapes or other environments associated with the galaxy-spanning battles of the Horus Heresy.

Background
The Horus Heresy divided the Imperium and transformed the greatest military force in Human history into two opposing armies. Space Marine fought Space Marine as the Legions once created to conquer the galaxy turned their weapons upon one another.

Assault Squads were deployed wherever speed and sudden violence could break an enemy formation. Their jump packs allowed them to cross fortified positions, strike isolated units and attack the defenders of walls, trenches and warships from unexpected directions.

Mark IV armour was among the most advanced equipment issued before the rebellion. Its widespread use by several favoured Legions meant that the same armour pattern could be seen on both sides of the conflict, worn by warriors whose shared origins no longer prevented them from fighting to the death.

Whether descending upon a Loyalist defensive line or attacking the followers of Horus, MkIV Assault Legionaries embody the speed, aggression and terrible martial power of the Legiones Astartes.
