Black Templars Chaplain Grimaldus and Retinue - Warhammer 40,000
PARAMETERS:
Lead the Black Templars with Chaplain Grimaldus, the legendary hero of Helsreach and one of the Chapter's most unbreakable spiritual leaders. Accompanied by relic-bearing Cenobyte Servitors, this dramatic character set captures the faith, determination and uncompromising fury of the Eternal Crusade.
Product description
Chaplain Grimaldus is a warrior-priest whose words can drive the Black Templars to acts of extraordinary courage and devotion. His iron will, cold fury and refusal to surrender have made him one of the most celebrated heroes in the history of the Chapter.
This multipart plastic set depicts Grimaldus advancing into battle beside his Cenobyte Servitors. The Chaplain is armed with a plasma pistol and artificer crozius, while the members of his retinue carry sacred relics connected to the traditions, sacrifices and victories of the Black Templars.
Together, the miniatures form a distinctive narrative group rather than a conventional squad. Grimaldus stands at the centre of the composition as a towering warrior in black power armour, while the smaller servitors create a solemn procession around him.
Chaplain Grimaldus
Grimaldus wears the black armour and skull-faced helm associated with the Chaplains of the Adeptus Astartes. His armour is decorated with chains, purity seals, bones, devotional symbols and relics that reflect his position as both spiritual leader and frontline warrior.
In one hand he carries a plasma pistol, while the other grips his artificer crozius. This sacred weapon serves as both a symbol of his office and a brutal instrument of judgement against the enemies of the Emperor.
The miniature captures Grimaldus moving forward with absolute confidence, prepared to confront heretics, alien horrors and enemy psykers at the head of a Black Templars assault.
His flowing robes, decorated armour and imposing backpack provide a strong connection to the medieval and religious aesthetic of the Chapter. The model is instantly recognisable as a senior Black Templars character and makes a natural focal point for an army or display.
Cenobyte Servitors and sacred relics
Grimaldus is accompanied by Cenobyte Servitors entrusted with carrying holy relics into battle. These figures represent the history and faith of the Chapter, preserving physical reminders of fallen heroes, sacred places and ancient victories.
The servitors create a strong contrast with the armoured Chaplain. Their hunched forms, mechanical implants, heavy burdens and worn garments communicate their complete devotion to the task imposed upon them.
Each bearer carries a different relic, giving the retinue a varied silhouette and creating several smaller focal points around the central figure of Grimaldus.
The miniatures can be painted as a unified procession or given individual details that reflect the age, origin and history of the sacred objects they carry.
The hero of Helsreach
Grimaldus is best known for his role in the defence of Hive Helsreach during the Third War for Armageddon. Faced with an overwhelming Ork invasion, he fought alongside Space Marines, Imperial Guard regiments, Titans and the defenders of the hive city.
His determination and leadership became symbols of resistance during one of the most brutal sieges in recent Imperial history. Even when surrounded by destruction and confronted with catastrophic losses, Grimaldus refused to abandon his duty.
His story is explored in Aaron Dembski-Bowden's novel Helsreach, where the Chaplain develops from a reluctant defender into the spiritual centre of the city's resistance.
The miniature is therefore particularly appealing to readers of Black Library fiction and collectors building forces inspired by the battles of Armageddon.
Painting opportunities
Chaplain Grimaldus and his retinue provide a varied painting project combining Space Marine armour, cloth, mechanical implants, weathered relics and ceremonial details.
Grimaldus can be painted in the traditional black armour of a Space Marine Chaplain, using grey or blue-grey edge highlights to define the individual plates. Bone details, purity seals and parchment provide lighter areas that contrast with the dark armour.
The plasma pistol offers an opportunity to add a bright energy glow, while the artificer crozius can combine dark metal, gold decoration and worn weapon surfaces.
The Cenobyte Servitors introduce skin, cloth, cables, metal implants and aged relics. Their burdens can be painted with weathered bronze, tarnished silver, ancient wood, stone or faded devotional colours to suggest objects carried through generations of crusades.
The separate bases allow the miniatures to be arranged as a procession across a battlefield or connected through a shared scenic theme such as ruined temples, hive-city streets, cathedral floors or the shattered defences of Helsreach.
