Combat Patrol: Black Templars is an excellent way to begin a new army or reinforce an existing crusade with several of the Chapter's most distinctive units. The models have been selected to form the Vow-sworn of Vedrenn, a complete force designed for focused Combat Patrol battles.

The collection is led by Vedrenn, an Emperor's Champion entrusted with ensuring that his battle-brothers remain true to the sacred vow sworn before battle. Three Bladeguard Veterans advance beside him, protected by heavy armour and carrying finely crafted weapons.

Five Sword Brethren provide a highly customisable veteran unit, while a 10-model Crusader Squad combines armoured Initiates with Neophytes who are still proving themselves worthy of becoming full battle-brothers.

The box provides a varied Black Templars collection with a named battlefield theme, several elite warriors and numerous modelling options. It also offers better value than purchasing the included kits separately.

Emperor's Champion
The Emperor's Champion leads the Vow-sworn of Vedrenn into battle. Chosen after receiving sacred visions, this warrior carries the Black Sword and seeks out the most dangerous enemies of the crusade.

The miniature embodies the knightly character of the Black Templars through its enclosed helm, flowing tabard, chains, devotional symbols and imposing two-handed blade.

The Emperor's Champion has a fixed pose and equipment configuration. The model does not include alternative weapon or head options.

Bladeguard Veterans
The three Bladeguard Veterans are heavily armoured warriors who combine defensive strength with masterful close combat ability. Their large shields, robes and knightly weapons make them a natural fit for the medieval appearance of the Black Templars.

Each model can be assembled with a heavy bolt pistol and sword, a heavy bolt pistol and shield, or a sword and shield. These choices allow you to vary the poses and appearance of the unit.

The Veteran Sergeant has a choice of heavy bolt pistol, plasma pistol or neo-volkite pistol. Heads, arms and tilting plates can be exchanged between the models to create three individual veterans.

The weapons and shields use the same bodies and mounting points, so every possible configuration cannot be built simultaneously from one set.

Sword Brethren
The five Sword Brethren represent honoured warriors who have earned a place among the Marshal's most trusted veterans. Their decorated armour, tabards, heraldic plates and varied equipment allow every miniature to appear as an individual champion.

The kit includes chainswords, master-crafted power weapons, a thunder hammer, plasma pistol, pyre pistols and twin lightning claws. These physical options can be distributed across the five warriors to create a varied close combat unit.

One model can alternatively be assembled as a Castellan armed with a bolt pistol or combi-weapon and a chainsword or master-crafted power weapon.

The Castellan is an alternative build using one of the five bodies. Choosing this option produces one Castellan and four Sword Brethren rather than an additional sixth miniature.

The backpacks, backpack decorations, shoulder pads, tilting plates and heads are interchangeable, providing extensive opportunities to personalise the unit.

Crusader Squad
The 10-model Crusader Squad brings together six armoured Initiates and four Neophytes. This mixture reflects the distinctive traditions of the Black Templars, whose aspirants learn directly from experienced battle-brothers while fighting in active crusades.

The four Neophytes can be assembled with Neophyte firearms or with bolt pistols and chainswords. Their lighter armour, uncovered heads and more youthful appearance create a strong contrast with the fully armoured Initiates.

The six Initiates can carry bolt rifles or bolt pistols and chainswords. Selected models can instead be equipped with pyreblasters or power fists.

One Initiate can alternatively be assembled as a Sword Brother armed with a master-crafted power weapon and either a bolt pistol or pyre pistol.

The Sword Brother uses one of the six Initiate bodies. Building this option produces one Sword Brother, five Initiates and four Neophytes. It does not increase the total number of models in the squad.

The heads and shoulder pads are interchangeable across the Initiates. Additional purity seals, tilting plates and relics can be used to give individual warriors their own honours and crusade history.

Flexible assembly options
The models in this Combat Patrol offer extensive physical customisation. Weapons, heads, shields, tilting plates and decorative components can be combined to create a force that reflects your preferred interpretation of the Black Templars.

The Bladeguard Veterans can be given different combinations of swords, pistols and shields. The Sword Brethren provide numerous specialist weapons and an optional Castellan build, while the Crusader Squad can be prepared for ranged combat, aggressive melee fighting or a mixture of both.

Alternative builds share the same bodies, arms and mounting points. A single box cannot produce every possible weapon and command configuration simultaneously, so planning the final composition before applying glue is recommended.

Black Templars transfers
The box includes two Black Templars Upgrades Transfer Sheets, each containing 240 waterslide transfers.

The transfers include Chapter crosses, crusade badges, heraldic symbols, squad markings and devotional details. They can be used across shoulder pads, shields, tilting plates, armour panels and other suitable surfaces.

Different crusade badges can help divide the collection into individual formations or connect all 19 models through a shared campaign identity.

Transfers are best applied to a smooth painted surface. Decal solutions and a protective varnish can help the markings conform to curved armour and remain protected during regular handling.

Painting opportunities
Combat Patrol: Black Templars provides a varied painting project combining black power armour, white heraldic panels, red weapons, exposed skin, robes, shields and devotional relics.

The armour can be highlighted with neutral grey, blue-grey or restrained metallic tones. White shoulder panels and tabards provide strong contrast, while red weapon casings, purity seals and heraldic details introduce the traditional accent colour of the Chapter.

The Bladeguard shields and tilting plates provide excellent surfaces for individual heraldry. Sword Brethren can receive more elaborate decorations, gold trim and personal honours to distinguish them from the other warriors.

The Crusader Squad offers additional variety through the exposed faces and lighter equipment of the Neophytes. Different skin tones, hair colours and personal markings can help make each aspirant appear unique.

Power weapons, plasma weapons, pyre weapons and the Black Sword provide opportunities for energy effects, heat staining, polished blades and signs of prolonged battlefield use.

The included bases can be decorated with ruined cathedrals, scorched city streets, broken statues, industrial debris or other scenery suited to the relentless campaigns of the Black Templars.

Background
The Black Templars are a crusading successor Chapter of the Imperial Fists founded by Sigismund, the first Emperor's Champion. They do not defend a single homeworld, but travel across the galaxy aboard immense fleets and wage an endless holy war against heretics, traitors and aliens.

Before battle, the warriors gather in prayer and swear a mighty vow that will guide their actions in the coming conflict. The Emperor's Champion serves as a living symbol of this devotion and ensures that the crusaders remain true to their sacred purpose.
